Our Last Performance, 4 Dec 2014 (REFLECTION)

On December 4th, which was today, we did our last performance for the 3 songs: Hey Jude, Superstition and Thriller! We did a great job overall, well done for all the hard work everyone! I personally think that we did good but needs some improvement. During the performance, I felt so nervous and had a little stage fright since this is like my first time on stage since a long time. When we did our practices, I felt much more relaxed and I bet everyone in class is to because it seems like we enjoyed the groove and had fun but when it was the final performance, I only thought about getting everything right and good. I felt too nervous and even made a small mistake when I did my first part on Thriller. But, well, overall I did a good job playing the part in the performances.

The Hey Jude performance was nice and everyone was singing well and the musicians played well. It was nice just listening it myself while playing the piano. The harmonies did great harmonizing with the main singers. The main singers sang well in Hey Jude and they improved because I can hear them well now (before, I cannot really listen to the main singers but then I can! Well done, Daleescha, Najwa, Farah, Nadya!). Even though I'm nervous, I can feel a bit relaxed because it sounds nice to me and the lighting is also pretty cool for this particular performance (it suits the performance). However, I do think that we all should be a bit more relaxed in the performance. I can feel a bit of a tense atmosphere when I was on stage. We should've practiced more and be more confident next time. Overall, this performance is so jazzy and nice so I like it :3

In the Superstition performance, I was just managing so I get to see the whole thing from the start. So, I think that it was awesome and everyone was playin' it well! The musicians did a good job syncing together to the beat and making it sound so cool and groovy. I liked the performance! Only that I think that the singers should relax a bit because they look pretty nervous when I look at their faces. The kolintang people was also cool and they're keeping the beat together. So, what I think this performance should work on more is that they should enjoy more to the beat since it's upbeat and it makes you happy just listening to it (it makes me happy LOL) so ENJOY IT MORE! :D

Finally, the Thriller performance. I played the piano again and just before, I had to run up to the top of the Theatre to manage the ppt for the performance and run back down to Thriller. Honestly, it's a bit tiring and I just felt nervous then. So, I accidentally played an octave higher on the first part. Is it uncool? So sorry! Well, then I just PRETENDED to play the piano (like gesturing my hands while listening to the backing track, matching my pretended play as if I'm really playing the piano). Honestly, it's a bit boring but when I hear everyone playing the part in the performance, it was so cool! I love it! The musicians did a great job playing their parts and it was cool! The harmonies danced along the music like they're really enjoying the performance and the solo singers were awesome (Dom, Farah) ! It really takes up lots of confidence in singing the main parts. Although I think there should a bit more practice, it was great! I wished we really could practice more on Thriller since we only started like 2 weeks ago and we've practiced the 2 other songs longer than that.

So, in conclusion, the performances were really great and sounded awesome! I love to perform again (if we can :p). I should've practiced more on my parts myself. We should've practiced more together so we could make it good somehow! I love how everyone was on stage and enjoyed playing their parts. I love each and everyone's parts and listening to them is nice. Even though there should be some improvements when some made mistakes, everyone put in a lot of effort into this, I admire that! Next time, if we have performances like this, we should put in 100% effort so we could be much more confident and play well. Well done Year 8 music class! We did a great job over this semester together through the cycle to the performances! I had so much fun in these performances and I hope you guys do to!

What we have been doing so far

We have finally worked on our Hey Jude, Superstition and Thriller performance and we will be in front of our Year 8 friends. The performance was supposed to be on the 27th of November but it was changed because our performance is still lacking in something. So, we moved it to December and I think it's a good idea to extend the time because it makes us more confident to perform later on and will make our performances sound better.

Hey Jude
I am playing the piano in this performance. At first, it was hard to find the chords for the piano but I somehow figured it out after trying many times. Now, our performance has been good but I personally think that we should practice a bit more so we could be more confident in our performance.

Superstition
I am not taking part in the performance so I will be like the manager later on. When I observed their performance, it sounds so awesome but they should keep in sync together so the song will sound much more awesome!

Thriller
I am also playing the piano for this performance but I can only play the first part of the song. I can't figure out the other part that I was supposed to play just yet. At first, the performance was a bit disorganised so we decided that if it was good enough, we will do it. On the 26th of Nov (if I'm not mistaken), we did a bit of a run-through it as it was the first time I figured out the first part. It sounded cool so we decided to perform Thriller too! I think this Thriller performance requires more practice because I think we're lacking something.

Reflection For Term 1

What we have done so far in this term is that at first, we started to get to know each other's weaknesses and strengths in music so that we could know what each person can do best and learnt about the whole design cycle process. Then, we were introduced to the design cycle so we are able to understand more about it and will be able to understand the project we will do together later on with the class. So, we are starting to build up what are we going to do using the design cycle. We decided on the themes we would possibly use for the project and broke it down to lesser ideas (vote)  that we think were the best ones. Groups were divided into each of those broken down themes and we researched about those themes according to our groups. Afterwards, we presented what we think is a good idea to perform to the class. We thought about how are we going to perform based on the theme we're researching on and shared our opinions about it as well. After that, we voted for the things that were the best and then were left with the remaining topics: forward to the past & legends in music. We decided to do a medley, mixed between the two of those because the both of had almost the same number of points.

What I think!
I really want to hurry up and play instruments! But I also think planning is necessary because it will be much more difficult if we go ahead and just play without planning anything at all. The design cycle is a huge help to the project and we could break it down from many ideas to 2 ideas which is great and the most wonderful ideas we think are the best from our own personal ideas. I really like music. That's why, by sharing our ideas, we also develop teamwork in our class. Honestly, I was surprised because I thought we would just go ahead and play music just like when I was in Year 7. But in Year 8, it's different because we get to do what we want as a class and perform independently. It's actually fun and creative for our minds as well to share our own creative ideas for music class. So, I hope we'll be able to continue this next term!
